NEW VIRUS

A new virus is spreading quickly around the Internet. This new version of the "Mytob" virus appears to come from an official sounding Hope e-mail address (like "abuse@hope.edu") and indicates that your account will be suspended if you do not click on a link included in the message. More details on the MyTob virus can be found here.

If you receive messages like this, please delete them immediately, and do not click on the link.

Please keep in mind, it is CIT's policy that any message from a CIT staff member include a first and last name of a CIT employee. Consider any message without such a name bogus.

If you have already clicked on the link, you should ensure that your computer's virus definitions are up to date, then run a full system virus scan on your computer.

Thank you for your spam!

Yesterday 1,134 messages were reported using the new mark as spam feature in Webmail (or roughly 1 message for every 4 users). Our anti-spam system blocked 105,918 messages during that same period. So according to user reports, 98.9% of the spam sent to Hope yesterday was identified and blocked before it ever reached an Inbox.

Further, that means that given the 104,704 messages received by Hope accounts yesterday, users reported that just 1% of the e-mail they received was spam.

By forwarding those 1,134 missed messages to our anti-spam provider, we hope to improve the accuracy even more. Please continue to use the mark as spam feature to report those unwanted messages!
