Antivirus Software

CIT has purchased Windows and Macintosh antivirus software for all currently enrolled Hope College students. "Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition" is available free of charge for use on one (1) computer per student. The software is available for download by current students only. It is also available on CD from the CIT Office in Durfee Hall.

Even if you already have antivirus software installed, CIT highly recommends that all students take advantage of this resource. While other packages require you to continually purchase "subscription renewals" in order to receive updates, you'll receive free updates as long as our software is installed. Once installed, this software will automatically download and install new virus definition files on a regular basis.

Incoming students should download and install this software before arriving on campus. Note: Virus protection for 64-bit computers is currently unavailable from this site.

Installation Instructions
You must have a current Hope College e-mail address to download this software. When prompted, enter your Hope e-mail user name (without the "@hope.edu") and password to proceed.

IMPORTANT: Uninstall any existing antivirus software from your computer. This includes all Norton and McAfee products, and any antivirus programs that were already installed on your computer when you purchased it. Also, any previous versions of Hope College antivirus software will also need to be removed.

  1. Carefully read the "Hope College Antivirus Software Agreement" below
  2. Click the button indicating your acceptance or decline of the License Agreement
  3. If you choose to accept the License Agreement, you will be prompted for a user name and password. Enter your Hope e-mail address without the "@hope.edu" for the user name, and your Hope e-mail password as the password.
  4. A "File Download" window will open. Click the button labeled "Open" or "Run".
  5. The installation program will begin. Follow the prompts to proceed. (With a Mac, you may need to double-click the "student.dmg" file on your desktop to begin the installation.)

Hope College Antivirus Software Agreement

By downloading or installing this software, I agree to all of the following statements:

  • Hope College owns the Symantec Antivirus licenses.
  • I am a current Hope College student.
  • I am installing this software on my personal PC for my own personal use.
  • I will not redistribute this software in any way.
  • Upon termination of my status as a student at Hope College, I will remove all College licensed copies of this software from my computers.
I AGREE - Windows Vista
Note that certain security settings in Windows Vista may cause the installation to fail on the first attempt. If this happens, try re-running the installation program.
