Self/Career Assessments through Career Services

WHY TAKE THE STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY?
  • to objectively identify interests
  • to provide a framework for organizing interests into the world of work
  • to help identify relevant occupations that may not have been considered before

THE STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY MEASURES INTERESTS THAT ARE:

  • vocational.
  • avocational (leisure, recreational).
  • environmental (working, living, playing).
  • reflective of preferences for types of people (co-workers, friends, significant others).
  • Does not test abilities or skill level--only interests.

To Take the "Strong":
(1)
Sign up for the "Here's Looking at You" workshop, or make an appointment with the receptionist at Career Services for individual counseling.
(2)
Bring $15.00 (processing fee) with you when you come in to take the inventory.
Getting the Results:
(1)
The results will be available within two weeks.
(2)
If you are a workshop participant, a second session will be scheduled to review the results. Otherwise, you will be called to set up an appointment to review the results of your inventory.
From User's Guide: Strong Interest Inventory, Jo-Ida C. Hansen, 1992.

WHY TAKE THE MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR (MBTI)?

  • To identify your preferences
  • To understand your preferences
  • To discover how your preferences apply to a career decision

THE MBTI MEASURES VALUABLE DIFFERENCES THAT RESULT FROM:
  • the way people like to take in information.
  • where people like to focus their attention.
  • the way people like to make decisions.
  • the kind of lifestyle people adopt.
To Take the MBTI:
(1)
Sign up for the "Here's Looking at You" workshop, or make an appointment with the receptionist at Career Services for individual counseling.
(2)
Bring $5 fee with you when you come.
Getting the Results:
(1)
The results will be available within 2 days for those who take the MBTI through an individual appointment.
(2)
If you are a workshop participant, a second session will be scheduled to review the results. Otherwise, you will be called to set up an appointment to review the results of your inventory.

SKILLSCAN CARDSORT

The SkillScan cardsort exercise helps you to pick out and categorize your competencies. Through this process, you can readily identify your strengths and weaknesses. This information can then be incorporated into your decision-making about majors or careers and preparations for resume writing and interviewing.

VALUES DRIVEN WORK CARDSORT

This is a hands-on exercise that allows you to prioritize work values in four areas: work environment, work content, work relationships, and intrinsic values. This information can then be used as you assess the fit between various career fields and work environments and your own needs and desires.

To use cardsorts:

Make a one-hour appointment for individual counseling by calling the receptionist at Career Services.

There will be no fee for this session. Results available immediately.
