Preparation for Hope College's first Dance Marathon began in the fall of 1999. The planners of the Marathon were told that a school the size of Hope should only expect to raise about $4800. In March of 2000, after a year of hard work, over $23,000 was raised! Moving into its second year, the Dream Team began several new fundraisers, including the Giving Hope to Kids Auction. This auction became an annual event, featuring artwork by kids at DeVos and professional artists, plus collectibles, home decor and much more! At the end of the 2001 Dance Marathon, a total of $37,219.54 was raised!
Participation grew tremendously in 2002. The number of organiations involved jumped significantly to 30. Over 20 Miracle Families provided inspiration to these groups through the year. Even the number of dancers skyrockets as 180 students and faculty registered to dance the night away. The 2002 Dance Marathon raised $50,425.87. Dance Marathon continues to grow and develop every year. In 2006, around 300 dancers registered to participate! As we prepare for the next Marathon, our goal continues to be to raise awareness. No matter how small, every bit of support helps!
