Dylan, Age 6

dylan fWhen Dylan was three weeks old he began to have difficulty breathing. They discovered that Dylan had a hole in his heart between the ventricles called a VSD. He was put on medication and an increased calorie diet. More testing revealed that Dylan also had problems with reflux.

After a few more weeks Dylan was not putting on any weight and his breathing was still giving him trouble. The doctors decided to begin respiratory treatments and antibiotics. Dylan was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit to get a feeding tube placed into his stomach.

Exactly two weeks after the surgery Dylan had a bowel obstruction and had to go back into surgery to have it removed. After the second surgery Dylan moved to the PICU because his breathing was still not improved. Three weeks later Dylan had open-heart surgery. He was in the hospital for 9 weeks straight for all of these surgeries. After his last surgery he began going to play group for therapy. He began at the Ken-O-Sha school, where he saw a neurologist. The neurologist determined that Dylan has mild cerebal palsy, which affects his oral motor. Dylan is now making great progress and is always happy to meet new people.

Dylan loves Nascar, wtaching footbal, music and people!. His family enjoys camping and fishing. They are thankful for the staff and doctors at DeVos Children’s Hospital that care for and about each and every patient. They also appreciate everything that Dance Marathon has done for CMN - "it really does make a difference in a child's stay at the hospital!"
