Hannah and Logan
Hannah was born on Thanksgiving Day, 3 months early. She weighed under 4 lbs, and went down in weight during the first week. After 8 weeks in the neonatal unit at DeVos she was released to go home, but had to be on an apnea monitor due to severe breathing difficulties. After a week they discovered that she was having bad acid reflux interfering with her heart. She needed to have a tube inserted into her stomach. After feeding, the tube would have to be unplugged so that gas could escape. She was back in DeVos again for this surgery and the recovery for seven weeks. Three weeks after surgery she had a bowel obstruction, and had to have part of her intestine removed. One year later, she had another bowel obstruction that required a second emergency surgery. Logan was born eight weeks early. After birth, Logan had problems with feeding causing his blood oxygen to drop dangerously. They saw some specialists and found that Logan has tracheal malaysia (an extra piece of flesh flapping over his trachea while eating.) He had to have surgery to clip away the excessive flesh. After the surgery, his feeding returned to normal and was able to go home. Currently, he has been battling ear infections. Hannah and Logan like to play and watch movies together. Their family wants everyone to know that know that no child goes unheld on Christmas Eve at DeVos Children's Hospital. |
