About the Hope College Pom Pon TeamThe purpose of the Pom Pon Team is to support Hope College sports by entertaining crowds at home football and men’s basketball games. To do so, the team practices three to four times a week learning and perfecting routines for performances. The poms vary their dance style for each season, performing Traditional Pom style routines for football and Universal Dance Association (U.D.A.) style for basketball. The team also performs a Guy/Girl routine during basketball season each year, where some of Hope College’s finest male poms have the opportunity to show off their talents. The Pom Pon Team is a Hope College club advised by Anne Baker. Organization for the team is led by captains with the help of Fundraising, Publicity and Unity chairs. As a club, the Pom team participates in Dance Marathon, sponsoring a team dancer and performing during the marathon. The team has also performed at a Coalition on Adolescent Choices and Health (COACH) youth event, which is a part of Wedgwood Christian Services of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The team’s captains have also been judges for an area high school pom pon competition. Beginning in 2005, the team provides dance clinics for local Girl Scout troupes or other interested groups. If interested in a clinic, e-mail pompons@hope.edu. |
