About Us

Silent Praise is a student-run organization that seeks to praise God through American Sign Language (ASL) and worship music. Members do not need to have any prior knowledge and experience with ASL or the Deaf culture. During our weekly practices, each new song is taught one sign at a time.

In the past we have done such songs as, "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)," "Voice of Truth," and "Blessed be Your Name". Since 1996, when Silent Praise was started, the group has continued to grow. Much of our energy is spent going to local churches in groups of three to five as special music and participating in our chapel services. A few times a year we also prepare special pieces for events, such as the Alternative Worship Service a collaborative event each semester between Sacred Dance, Gospel Choir, Hope for the Nations, and Silent Praise.

The expressiveness of ASL provides a dramatic and moving worship experience for both participant and spectator. For more information please contact the group at silentpraise@hope.edu
