History of Hope College Lacrosse

Founded in 1974 as a Club Sport, Hope College Lacrosse is one of the oldest lacrosse programs in the state. The team has long competed with schools in the Great Lakes Region as an independent club, but has recently joined the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) conference of the United States Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates (USLIA). In this conference, Hope's team will have the opportunity to compete in regional and national championships that are overseen by US Lacrosse, the national governing body for lacrosse.

Before the creation of the CCLA conference, Hope was the sole source of any sort of regional tournament that declared a champion. Although a sanctioned contest does now exist, Hope continues to host the Wooden Shoe Lacrosse Tournament every Spring. The team chose to do this partly because of tradition, but also because we believe that it provides a place for non-conference teams to exhibit their skills and compete for a title. Hope is operated as a 'virtual varsity' team that meets all NCAA rules and regulations, and can only hope to one day be elevated to varsity status at the college.

Home Games

Home games are played on the Hope College Buys Athletic Fields located at 267 Fairbanks Ave. in Holland. Games are free of charge for all fans.

Campus Visit

If you are participating in a campus visit and are interested in playing lacrosse, please email menslax@hope.edu so we can schedule a meeting with you while you are on campus.

Donations

The Hope College Lacrosse Team is a club sport of Hope College. The team recieves limited funds from the college, but also depends on player dues and fundraising. Donations help us to pay for traveling expenses, replacement of equipment, and lowering the out-of-pocket expense for players so that money doesn't prevent a student from playing lacrosse.
