Montana Leadership RetreatEach year, approximately 30 student-athletes and coaches embark on a mission to authentically discuss leadership issues as they pertain to Hope College in general and Hope athletics specifically. Held at Gainey Ranch/Two Moose Camp in Glen, Montana, this five-day athletics leadership retreat seeks to impact the lives of student-athletes through a curriculum designed to engage them in meaningful activities and discussions as they pertain to (1) building trust among athletes and coaches from and on different sports and teams; (2) providing skills in mission statement creation and goal-setting; (3) defining servant-leadership; and, (4) thinking about commitment, character, accountability, and results on a personal level as well as a corporate one. Those lessons are not to be left 1,700 away from Hope, though! Student-athletes and coaches then discuss ways to intentionally continue this leadership/teamwork conversation back at Hope and Holland – on their teams, in their communities, in their classes and dorms, and in their corporate athletic and academic communities. They look to answer this question: How will we know if what we have learned is working and making a difference? It’s a big question, true, and one needs to be constantly asked and answered! Their time at Gainey Ranch/Two Moose Camp is their launching pad.
