How do I join SAC? And why would I want to?
Stop by the booth at Activities Fair and check us out! You are also welcome to attend our weekly meetings to get involved. Meetings are held Monday nights at 9pm in Martha Miller Center 238. Everyone is welcome so stop by and see what SAC is all about!

SAC is a fun committee to be a part of! You have a say in the entertainment that we bring to campus and have a chance
to meet some fun people! You also have a chance to have fun with the other committee members, too! If you want to learn a lot and have some fun then think about joining SAC!! You will gain leadership experience that you will be able to make use of beyond Hope College.

How do you pick the movies that are shown?
Over the summer the Films Committee and Directors of SAC review several films that the Committee feels would be worthwhile for the Hope community. The Film Committee also takes suggestions.

How do you choose the performers who come to Hope?
Representatives from SAC go to two conferences a year for the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). At these conferences, we go to showcases where performers come have 15 minutes to show off their talent. If we see something we like, we are able to do all of our booking there as agents right there. We can also form blocks, where other schools in the area bring in the same entertainers, so we all get a cheaper rate. Besides that, we often go by who we have had in past years that we liked and as we hear about performers from other people as well.

How much to performers get paid for a show?
Prices range from around $1,000 to $5,000 per performer that we select from at NACA conferences, etc., that are somewhat "big name" depending on the act. Local entertainment is significantly less.

Isn't $140 a year a little steep for a couple comedians?
The $140 student activity fee doesn't all go to our budget!! We only get about 35% of the money that comes in from that fee. Each student pays about $49 to SAC. This goes toward everything our organization does including room and board for the entertainers all the way down to photocopying and paper clips. Because of this, you get to enjoy about 9 to 11 entertainers a year for the bargain price of $49! And, you get to go to fun events such as Spring Fling and the Homecoming Hoedown, too.
