Journey 4-H Youth Mentoring
Journey's mentoring program aims to reduce the frequency and severity of delinquent behavior by matching court involved youth with a positive adult role model. We have a partnership with the Ottawa County Family Court / Juvenile Services, and there are two ways for volunteers to get involved. Community based mentoring matches volunteers one-on-one with youth ages 8-17, while detention visitation gives volunteers a chance to meet with several youth at once at the detention facility. Community based mentoring requires an 18-month commitment while detention visitation requires 6 months. This is a great opportunity for Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or Criminal Justice majors, or anyone interested in positively impacting the life of a youth. Please call Harold McDermed @ 616-846-8250 or email haroldvista1@yahoo.com if you’re interested!

Underprivileged High School Students
At Golgotha Church we are looking for college volunteers or interns (unpaid). We are a non-profit youth ministry for underprivileged high school students. Our Wednesday night meetings consist of hanging out with the teens that attend by playing games, skateboarding, and playing pool. We also meet on Saturday and Sunday nights for a guys and girls Bible studies. The vision of Golgotha is this: There is a substantially sized counter culture of young people who remain largely ignored by the majority of Christ centered youth organizations in West Michigan. Golgotha caters to a demographic of young adults who have quite possibly given up on church and other youth groups but have yet to give up on God. Golgotha’s vision is to create a strong community in which young adults feel consistently accepted and loved. We strive to create a safe place in which diversity and individual talents are celebrated and encouraged by the transcendent love of Christ. We aim to make Christ’s teaching relevant to a distinct group of young adults who may feel ostracized from mainstream culture. Golgotha’s goal is to be an oasis of joy, love, and compassion amidst a desert of adolescent chaos. We are located at 412 W. 24th St. (just west of Holland High). If interested please contact John Kapenga at jkapenga@gmail.com or 616-834-1652.
