October 2012

  • 25th - 5:30 pm - Martha Miller Center room 159
    AED is hosting an Allied Health meeting that will feature an occupational therapist, a physican's assistant, as well as a nurse practitioner.

  • 26th
    The Holland Free Health Clinic will be hosting a fundraising event called Run 4 Your Life, a 5K fun run/walk. The run begins and ends at The Curragh Irish Pub in downtown Holland. Participants are encouraged to wear fun costumes in spirit of the holiday weekend. To register online, please visit http://www.snapregistration.com/110188/.

    AED is hosting an event regarding "Healthcare Reform and Ethics" with Dr. Van Dyke, a Neurologist from Michigan State University.

November 2012

  • 12th - 8:00 pm - Science Center room 1019
    Dr. Bill DeWitt D.D.S will be joining us to talk about his work in Honduras. Dr. DeWitt and his wife Lori, a registered nurse, lead mission trips to Honduras with the non-profit organization, Casa de Esperanza, to bring dental and medical care to mountain villages in Honduras.

    The Poverty and Medicine group will be hosting Dr. Christensen, who will be discussing healthcare from local and international perspectives, as well as his own background in the health profession.

January 2013

    Join us at the science center for a plethora of snacks and games! This meeting is intended to be a meet and greet session where freshmen can ask seniors any questions that they have!

    "A Missionary Surgeon's Reflections on 40 Years Experience"
    Dr. Doorembos will join us to talk about missionary medicine and his life experience as a surgeon in Oman and Ethiopia. In his past twelve years post-retirement, he has traveled to multiple African countries as a volunteer surgeon.

February 2013

    "American Healthcare: Ethical Dimensions of Financing Healthcare Reform"
    Join us for pizza, soda, and a Healthcare Reform video from the DeVos Medical Ethics Colloquy! If you are interested in eating pizza, please sign up on Professor Prokopow's door (Science Center 3057).
  • 13th - 8:00 pm - Science Center room 1000
    Dr. Christensen, D.O., will be joining us to talk about the medical school experience. He will be answering questions about the residency process and fellowship process after medical school as well. Be ready and come with questions!
  • 18th - 8:00 pm - Science Center room 1118
    Seniors who have been accepted into medical school and PA school, as well as students working on public health and OT applications, will take time to talk to you! Find out how they managed their first three years of college while maintaining their personal and cultural competencies. Once again, come with a lot of questions!

March 2013

    Dr. DeVisser, a professor at Hope College and an experienced physician in family medicine, will be discussing the pearls of medicine and his life as a doctor, as well as his trips as a missionary.
  • 27th - 7:00 pm - Science Center room 1000
    Linda Krumm, a nurse case manager, will be talking about her role with her clients in the health field. One of her patients will be coming in to talk about the care from his perspective. All nursing students are encouraged to attend. Also, please note the time change at 7pm!


April 2013

  • 8th - 6:30pm - Science Center room 1000
    Dr. David Brzezinski, a faculty member at University of Michigan Medical and Dental Schools, will be visiting to speak to us! He graduated from Hope in 1998 with a B.S. in biochemistry and went on to the University of Michigan Medical School to receive his MD in 2002. Inductions will also be taking place for our recent inductees at 630pm! If you are an inducted AED member, you may attend the inductions. Please dress business casual. Dr. Brzezinski will talk following the inductions from 7pm-8pm.
  • 11th - 8:00 pm - Science Center room 3000
    Dr. Mulder, a local optometrist at West Coast Eye Care, will be speaking about her experience in optometry school, owning her own private practice, and other unique aspects about optometry as a profession. Dr. Mulder is our first ever optometrist guest speaker so don't miss out!
  • 13th - Mid-day - University of Michigan Dental School
    Hope College's Dental Club will be taking a trip to see the Dental School at the University of Michigan.
  • 15th - 8:00pm - Science Center room 1000
    Elections will be taking place for the new executive board for the upcoming 2013-2014 academic school year. All inducted (past and present) members are able to vote.
