2nd- Smallenburg Park at 5:30pm - We will be having our annual AED cookout at Smallenburg Park. For those who do not know where the park is, we will be meeting at the flagpole between DeWitt and Kollen Hall at 5pm. Come enjoy FREE FOOD with all of your friends!
12th- SC Room 1000 at 8:00pm - Debi Loudin will be speaking,
who is the Volunteer Resource Coordinator at Holland Hospital. She has
been at Holland Hospital for three years and continues to connect Hope
students with volunteer opportunities regularly. Jeff Compagner will also
be speaking, who has been the executive director at the Holland Free Health
Clinic for seven years. He has provided many Hope students with excellent
10th- Dimnent Chapel at 7:00 pm - Dr. James Maas will be speaking, who is a leading authority and international consultant on sleep and performance. Dr. Maas is one of the world’s most sought after corporate, medical, association, education, and professional athletic team speakers. 24th- SC Room 1000 at 8:00am - Dr. Robert Thompson, a Hope graduate and Vascular Surgeon from the Washington University School of Medicine, will be hosting a meet and greet breakfast meeting. Breakfast will be provided for all who attend!
24th- 8:00pm - Run 4 Your Life 5K Run/Walk will be taking place at 6:00pm starting at the Curragh Irish Pub. The event is hosted by the Holland Free Health Clinic. Participants are encouraged to dress up and dress in costume for the holiday. 25th- 9:30am at DeVos Fieldhouse 2A08 - "Teamwork in Healthcare" - Dr. Robert Thompson will be presenting his perspective on working with other healthcare professionals prior to, during and after surgery.
4th- SC room 1000 at 8:00pm - Dr. Seim, optometrist and owner of Mattawan Family Eye Care, will be speaking about optometry as a profession and sharing her own experiences of running a private practice.
13th - SC room 1000 at 8:00 pm - Dr. Christensen, D.O., will be discussing his pathway to medicine, his current career as a family practitioner (right here in Holland!), reflect on struggles between poverty and medicine, and answer any and all questions you may have about life as a physician.
14th- Winants Auditorium at 7:00pm (Note: change in time and location) - Gentile Lecture: Dr. Thomas Cech, Nobel Laureate, University of Colorado. "Exploring the Edges: Models for Interdisciplinary Research and Education"
15th- Winants Auditorium at 3:00pm (Note: change in location) - Visscher Lecture: Dr. Thomas Cech, Nobel Laureate, University of Colorado. "Crawling out of the RNA World: From Ribozymes to Telomerase?"
13th- SC room 1118 at 7:30pm - AED annual game night. Take a break after the first week of classes to snack, play games, and meet others!
4th- SC room 1000 at 8:00pm - Dr. Christensen will be going over a case study, but the topic is a surprise!
17th- 8:00pm - Accepted students will form panels for each health professional group to answer questions and discuss their paths to their respective graduate schools.
27th- Winants Auditorium at 7:00 pm - Mr. Robert Ruiz, the Director of Admissions at the University of Michigan Medical School, will help us learn how the world of medical school admissions is changing.
9th- SC room 1118 at 1:00pm - We will be hosting a peer-advising session for pre-health professional students. This is a great opportunity to talk to fellow classmates and get advice from upperclassmen.
10th- SC room 1000 at 8:00pm - Dr. Lowry is a physician who also has her Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan.
31st- Winants Auditorium at 7:00pm - A health professions panel consisting of an MD, PA, and NP will be discussing how they work together and interact in the best interest of patients. They will also be conducting a Q&A session for students to learn more about the professions.
7th- SC room 1000 at 8:00pm - AED inductions. All new members will be inducted into the committee by current AED members. Dr. William Strampel, the Dean of Michigan State University"s College of Osteopathic Medicine, will be the guest speaker for the evening.
14th- SC room 1019 at 9:00pm - AED elections for the 2014-2015 executive board.
