Several Hope College residence halls will be open to children trick-or-treating on Halloween during the college's "Safe Halloween" event.


A total of 8 residence halls will be open to young trick-or-treaters on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children 12 and under from the community are invited to visit and admission is free, although they are asked to wear a costume and must be accompanied by an adult.


To participate, children must obtain a special Hope identifier at an information tent during the event’s hours on the lawn in front of the DeWitt Center on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street.  In addition, the Dance Marathon student organization will be selling cider and hot chocolate at the tent to help raise funds for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

Trick-or-treating will take place in the following halls: Cook, Dykstra, Kollen, Lichty, Phelps, Scott, Van Vleck, and Voorhees.  Each individual hall will direct participants where to go to receive candy.

° Cook Hall is located on 10th Street between College and Columbia avenues.

° Dykstra Hall is located on Ninth Street at Columbia Avenue.

° Kollen Hall is located between 12th and 13th streets at Columbia Avenue.

° Lichty Hall is located on 13th Street between College and Columbia avenues.

° Phelps Hall is located on 10th Street at Columbia Avenue.

° Scott Hall is located on 13th Street between College and Columbia avenues.

° Van Vleck Hall is located in the central campus, south of 10th Street between College and  Columbia avenues.

° Voorhees Hall is located on 10th Street at College Avenue.
