The new roommate should check #3 on his/her housing card, list your hall/room and name. *Please completely fill out your housing card. * If you are remaining in a double room you must name a roommate. *Students in Cook Hall may not name the other side of the suite. *Please note there is no squatting in cottages or apartments.

3) If you intend to live with someone remaining in his or her same room – check #3. Name the hall, room, and the name of your future roommate. *Please completely fill out your housing card.

4) If you intend to participate in open room draw – check #4, if you want to participate in open room draw. At open room draw, there will be rooms available in residence halls and flex cottages.*If you choose a double room at open room draw, you must name a roommate.

5) If you intend to apply for an apartment – check #5. The order of application deadlines reflects the past popularity of apartment size. You will be notified by e-mail the day after each application deadline as to whether or not your group received an apartment. If you do not receive one, you will still have time to apply for the next apartment size and your name will remain on a wait list. Apartment application occurs prior to room draw so that if you do not receive an apartment you are still able to participate. *Oggel Apartments are reserved for married/family housing.

6) If you will be a Resident Assistant – check #6.

7) If you have been named to a living space by an RA – check #7. List the cottage/hall/apartment/ RA.

Room Draw

In April you will be sent a letter with an assigned number, date, and time which tells you when you will be able to choose your room. All: room draw will be held in Martha Miller, April 7, 2008. Times: TBA

  • When your name is called you will pick a room – if you pick a double room, you must name a roommate.
  • If you are looking for a roommate, check out this website: http://www.hope.edu/student/residential/needaroommate/index.html
  • Each year, rooms in each residential hall are reserved for the incoming class.
  • You may not switch roommates after open room draw.

Cook Hall

Rooms will be available at open room draw. You can choose a room and name a roommate, you may not name students in the other suite. Please note: due to fire code regulations, there is free access to the other room in the suite through the bathroom. If you and your roommate later agree to switch rooms with another set of roommates that will be allowed. However, individual roommates cannot exchange spaces within Cook. Students on a meal plan who live in Cook Hall, cottages, apartments, off campus, or commute from their parent’s home can eat in Cook Dining Hall.

Cottages: Closed and Flex

Most cottages are closed, which means they are not available at room draw. A Resident Assistant is hired and they submit names of who is living in the cottage. Closed cottages include Greek, theme, or language houses.

A Flex cottage is a cottage that a RA can name up to 50% of the cottage. The remaining spaces in the cottage will go to open room draw. Female flex cottages are Pieters, Sligh, Welmers, and Zwemer. Male flex cottages are Centennial, DeGraaf, Poll, and Reese.

*You may not switch rooms or roommates after open room draw in a flex cottage.
