Summer Housing Selection Process

So how do we select summer housing?

If you have ever been on campus in the summer you know that there is plenty of activity going on the entire time. Whether it be one of many conferences which spend time here, research students from other institutions, or the Hope Summer Repertory Theatre company, much of our housing is in use.

In order to receive housing through Student Development, you must be currently enrolled as a full time student and taking summer classes, participating in summer research, or working on-campus. Conference Services takes care of housing non-Hope College students during the summer. Theatre Department has housing for students involved in theatre.

Students are traditionally housed in four areas:

  1. Wyckoff (males) and Scott (females) Halls- for students staying for just May Term and do not live in a facility we usually use. May Term is when we need the most housing, so these halls meet that need for the four weeks.
  2. Small apartments will be used throughout the summer.

How do we decide where to house students?

Below are our guidelines in find housing for students. Please be aware that we cannot always meet these guidelines, and they also assume an application was received on time.

  1. Any student currently housed in a place we use for the entire summer can stay there.
  2. A student who will be living in one of our summer housing units next fall will possibly be place in that spot (for example, if you tell us you are in Ross Apartment 1 next fall, we will try to put you in there for the summer).
  3. Roommate/apartmentmate requests and all other students.

With limited housing, whether or not you are housed with a friend may depend on the time periods each person is staying. We make every effort to meet reasonable requests.
