Lynne Thompson won the 2008 GLCA New Writers Award for
Beg No Pardon, a collection of poetry that reflects on
the journey of life from childhood through adulthood. One
of the judges who chose Thompson’s collection notes
that her poems “seduce and confront and refuse to
be anonymous--or they revel in the transgressions anonymity
affords. They really do beg no pardon." Thompson was
born and raised in Los Angeles by parents born in the Windward
Islands, West Indies. She received her B.A. from Scripps
College and a J.D. from Southwestern University School
of Law. She currently serves as the Director of Employee
and Labor Relations at the University of California, Los
Angeles.
