Don Waters won the 2009 GLCA New Writers Award for his
collection of stories, Desert Gothic, which also won the
Iowa Short Fiction Award. Novelist Percival Everett calls
the prose in Waters’s stories, all set in the American
southwest, “as sneaky as the landscape it depicts
. . . also as harsh and as beautiful.” Waters has
received numerous fellowships and honors for his writing,
including the Pushcart Prize and the Silver Pen Award from
the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame. He was born and raised
in Reno, Nevada and now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
