Terrance Hayes's latest poetry collection, Wind in
a Box,
was named by Publishers Weekly as one of the best 100 books
of 2006. His other books of poetry are Muscular Music,
which won the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, and Hip Logic,
which won the National Poetry Series Open Competition.
Poems in Lighthead, forthcoming from Penguin in 2010, have
appeared in journals such as the American Poetry Review,
Poetry, and the New Yorker. About Hayes’s work, poet
Cornelius Eady has said: "First you'll marvel at his
skill, his near-perfect pitch, his disarming humor, his
brilliant turns of phrase. Then you'll notice the grace,
the tenderness, the unblinking truth-telling just beneath
his lines, the open and generous way he takes in our world." Hayes’s
honors include a Whiting Writers Award, a National Endowment
for the Arts Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He
lives in Pittsburgh and teaches at Carnegie Mellon University.
