Dr Kim Hawtrey is Professor of Economics at Hope College. Previously he was with Macquarie University (1992-2007), Chief Economist at Colonial Bank in Sydney (1987-91), and Economist with the Reserve Bank (1980-86). Dr Hawtrey graduated with honors from the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and James Ruse High.

Professor Hawtrey is an elected Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, and in 2010 was named the Simon denUyl Research Scholar by Hope College. He serves on the editorial boards of three academic journals, and as a program Chair of the International Atlantic Economic Society. He is a consultant to the Australian Bankers Association, and appears regularly in the media on current topics. His most recent scholarly book, Affordable Housing Finance, was published by MacMillan in 2009, and he is an invited contributor to the International Encyclopedia of Housing, forthcoming from Elsevier in 2011.

As an educator, Dr Hawtrey has won the international Pearson Finance Lecturer Award, MU Outstanding Teacher Award, and the national Carrick Education Award. In 2008 he was invited by the Australian Government to join the Governing Panel of national awards for university teaching. Besides working with students in the United States and Australia, he has taught masters students in Europe, Hong Kong, and Nanjing China. He co-leads an annual May Term study tour by Hope students to London and Paris, and has led delegations of young adults to Florida and South Africa.

As an administrator, Dr Hawtrey was Chief Manager at Colonial Bank for five years. He has held a seat on the Board of four companies, and been appointed to several Government committees. He chaired a major national inquiry, involving CEOs from leading housing industry stakeholders. For twelve years he served on the Standing Committee of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. In 2009 he became a Fellow of the GLCA Academic Leadership and Innovation Institute in Ann Arbor, and currently serves as Faculty Chair of three campus organizations at Hope College: Intervarsity, Wyckoff Hall, and the Rugby Club.

Kim Hawtrey plays guitar, likes to ski and enjoys music. He is married to Jenny and they have four children.
