ENGS 224 - Mechanics of Materials Laboratory

Course Description
This course is a laboratory to accompany ENGS 222, Principles of Engineering Materials. Students investigate material properties using standard testing procedures, and analyze their results using packaged software programs. The students also use experimental tools such as electrical resistance strain gages to determine the state of stress in loaded members.

Course Objectives
•  Knowledge of standard material testing procedures [1,2,4].
•  Determination of material properties from test data [1,2,3].
•  Understanding of appropriate versus inappropriate interpretation of test data [1,2,3].
•  Use of electrical resistance strain gages and appropriate instrumentation to find stresses [1,2,3].
•  Experience working in teams in an engineering laboratory setting [1,4].
•  Presentation of work in a clear, concise, logical and professional manner [1,4].
