John Clapp joined the Hope College music faculty in the fall of 2006. He is currently Assistant Principal/Second Bassoonist of the Grand Rapids Symphony. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Contrabassoonist of the Grand Rapids Symphony for six seasons. John has also held the position of Contrabassoon with the Charlotte Symphony, in Charlotte North Carolina. A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Clapp received his undergraduate degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a master’s degree from the Juilliard School of Music. He has performed with the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Harrisburg Symphony, and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic.
