Richard Smith
Professor of Theatre
Richard Smith is currently Professor of Theatre and Resident Scene
Designer.
He teaches courses in scene design, elements of design, film studies,
and
theatre crafts. He is an active member of United States Institute Theatre
Technology.
Richard received a McKnight Fellowship from University of Minnesota
and worked at the Tyrone Guthrie
Theatre. He has continued with postgraduate education in sculpture, scene design, and film studies at Banff School of Arts, University of Iowa,
University of Michigan, Colorado Marble Institute, Institute of Marble
Art in
Italy, American Film Institute, Penland School of Arts. He has designed
scenery, properties, costumes, and make-up for more than 175 productions
and
taught courses at Hope College, Dartmouth College, Cornell University
and
University of Utah. His theatre designs and sculptures have also been
exhibited at North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Singapore Cultural
Center,
New York, Colorado, Indiana, Minneapolis, and at the World Stage Design
Exhibition in Toronto.
