First-Gen Programs

1GenHope programs offer first-gen students community, networking, connections and preparation for possible next steps after their time at Hope.

End-of-Year Celebration Dinner

First-Gen Student Union, alongside First-Gen faculty and staff, celebrates the achievements of our graduating seniors and our entire student union for finishing out the year. During this time, we eat dinner, show program highlights and introduce our new 1GenHope student directors for the following year.

Four participants in the Graduate School PanelGraduate School 101

A panel of campus first-gen faculty and staff join 1GenHope to give insights into their personal stories on how they pursued and persisted throughout graduate school. Students can also network and ask further questions about graduate school programs. This is one of many 1GenHope programs that are offered to First-Gen students to help prepare them for possible next steps after their time at Hope College.

Embrace First-Gen with Art

This event is hosted towards the end of the spring semester, allowing first-gen students to reflect on the year. Students are given a plain tote bag and paint to create meaningful art. This event is one of many "Community Building" events that 1GenHope offers to allow First-Gen students to meet and to create connections.
