/ Art and Art History Department

Courses

Our students take courses in both studio art and art history.

These courses provide a foundation in the fine arts for both the art student and the liberal arts student. Our world-class faculty members are dedicated to teaching and producing research-oriented artists and art historians.

The curriculum affords opportunities for study and creative work in the visual arts through studio practice and art history. Our studio courses make use of Hope’s facilities for printmaking, photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, design and metal sculpture. Our art history courses utilize the many resources found in the Van Wylen Library, as well as the extensive collection in the Kruizenga Art Museum. All students engage with the multiple exhibitions held year-round in the De Pree Gallery.
